This exquisite tomahawk is truly magical. It is decorated based on the Native American story that dates back to the 1600's from the Northern Cheyenne Tribe. The story is about a beautiful girl who was known far and wide for her beautiful quillwork. She made only men's war shirts and had no brothers or lover. She was always said to have based her work on her dreams and she told her mother that she dreamed of seven brothers, and that she must embark on a journey to find them. Wearing the warmest furs she could find and accompanied by only two siberian huskys, Quillwork Girl treked amongst the snowy landscape of what is now North Dakota.

After several days she came upon a large tent decorated with seven bear paw prints, just like in her dream. Inside, she found the brothers.  She gave them the seven quillwork shirts as gifts, they accepted her as their sister and she lived with them. Afterwards, the leader of the Buffalo Nation fell in love with her and demanded the brothers give her to his tribe. They refuse and the Buffalo say if they cannot have Quillwork Girl, they will kill all of them. Soon after, the Buffalo Nation, what seemed like millions, came running towards their tent so the brothers and Quillwork Girl hid in a tree. The youngest brother (who was said to have used his special powers to bring Quillwork girl to them) shot arrows from his bow into the tree making it grow taller and taller until it seemed like they were reaching the clouds. They heard the tree breaking far beneath them so the little brother told them to jump. They jumped and landed on a valley of clouds in the night sky, the moon beaming bright above them.

It is said that what the white man calls the Big Dipper is really Quillwork Girl (or "Starwoman" as she was renamed) and her seven brothers. The fur around the tomahawk represents the fur Quillwork Girl wore as she made her spiritual journey. There are seven stones at the base of the tomahawk, representing the seven brothers.  Dance around in circles with this tomahawk and it just may snow!  The wooden handle is just over 19 & 1/2" high from top to bottom and the blade is 6" long.
