Agate is the oldest stone in recorded history. Agates have been used in jewelry since Biblical Babylonian times. They were used to ward off storms. They were prized gems in antiquity. The agates with banded colors were placed at the head of a sleeper to give rich and varied dreams. Agate is considered a protection stone. It is believed to attract strength and offer protection from bad dreams, stress and the draining of energy.  Moss agate is a stabilizing stone that is said to refresh the soul and reveal the beauty of nature all around one. Healers use it to reduce sensitivity to weather as well as pollution in the environment.  Midwives use moss agate to lesson pain during child birthing and to assure a good delivery. It is considered to be a stone of new beginnings and abundance.

Amber is organic fossilized tree resin that is 40 to 50 million years old. Colors are light honey gold to gold red and green. Like a time capsule, air bubbles, plants and primeval insects are sometimes trapped inside and preserved, making the amber highly prized. The most famous deposits are in the Baltic region. Amber is believed to sharpen the senses, correct imbalances and soothe the heart. When rubbed, amber produces an electrical charge.

Amethyst was worn to guard against drunkennes and to instill a sober mind. It was also believed to quicken the wit, protect soldiers in battle, guard against contagious disease and generally bring about peace of mind. It has been a popular religious stone, believed to control evil thoughts and increase one's spiritual development.

Aventurine is considered a healing stone to soothe a troubled heart or calm distraught emotions.  Aventurine is known as a lucky stone. It is said that if one holds aventurine in both hands while envisioning prosperity, money and good luck arrive at one's doorstep!

Cat's Eye is found in Myanmar, Brazil, China, Sri Lanka, and India. Those found in the Mogok mines in Myanmar and in Sri Lanka are considered the best. These localities produce the finest quality of Cat's Eyes called "milk and honey". When a flashlight is shined at the stone’s side it produces an amazing color zoning. Half of the stone will appear milky white while the other half remains a honey color. The green form is considered the next best. Apart from its color, Cat's Eye's value is judged by the brilliance of its luster, the sharpness of the eye, and its clarity and shape.   Wearing a quality Cat's Eye is believed to makes one wealthy, healthy, strongly determined, knowledgeable as well as providing protection from enemies. It will also help one gain insight, psychic powers, and can help one have better perception.

Citrine is a golden yellow variety of quartz, citrine is a powerful stone that brings sun and warmth into the heart. It works especially well with nervousness and unrest, and promotes self-confidence and renewed determination.  In former times Citrine was used as a protective talisman against the plague, bad skin and evil thoughts, and as a charm against snake bites and other venomous reptiles. It is also believed to symbolize happiness, aid digestion, remove toxins from the body, and be useful in the treatment of depression, constipation and diabetes.

Coral comes to us from the living sea as fossilized remains of sea creatures. Highly venerated by Tibetans and Native Americans as a symbol of vitality, coral symbolizes joy of life. Thought to protect against negative energy, coral is also believed to benefit blood and circulation disorders.

Hematite is dark, silvery black on the outside showing a dark red color when cut into thin slices.  It was regarded as the stone of the warrior because of its healing properties. Wise men of the Orient regarded it as a lucky stone to ward off the evil eye and in legal matters. Hematite represents firmness, strength, power and dedication; a magnificent grounding stone.

Jade has long been revered as the stone of peace, wisdom and true love in China. Each color has its own special vibration: Green is long life, true love, wisdom. Red is especially good for women’s health and physical stress. Lavender eases emotional strain. White relaxes nerves. Jade symbolizes overall renewal and is still considered a lucky stone worn as an amulet.   It’s been called the stone of the heavens, the musical stone, the stone of the loins and some people believe it can predict the future. Found in mountains and riverbeds it is considered to be “the essence of Heaven and Earth”.


Jasper occurs in many shades of brown, red and green and has always been said to have magic powers. Jasper symbolizes willpower. Red jasper strengthens stamina, stimulates sexuality and fertility. Yellow strengthens the immune system. Brown encourages stability and healing. Leopard relaxes tension, relieves fatigue and stimulates the imagination. Fancy jasper stabilizes shaky nerves.

 Malachite reveals alternating bands of light and dark green. Ancient Egyptians used malachite, in amulets and even pulverized it for use in eye makeup. Zaire is the most important producer of this concentration stone; also said to be a powerful career and money stone.

Moonstone is associated in antiquity with the moon, it has always been the stone of love and lovers.  A symbol of the Third Eye, moonstone is said to balance yin/yang, protect against epilepsy and sun stroke, cure headaches and nose bleeds, and ensure a high yield in crops. It can help men open their feminine emotional aspects and cool a fever if applied to both temples.  During the full moon, men can use it to predict the future by placing it in their mouths but women should avoid it at this time and also when menstruating.

Obsidian in the Stone Age was used to make weapons and arrowheads; obsidian is formed from volcanic lava and comes in brown, gray, black and spotted--as in snowflake obsidian. A protection stone, obsidian deflects negativity and sends it back to its source; also believed to help alleviate anxiety attacks.

Pearls come to us from the living sea. Formed by invading particles that penetrate shells, they show us how we can attain perfection through painful experience. Pearls in their many colorations, reveal their full beauty and radiance when worn against the skin. The embodiment of feminine beauty, pearls promote wisdom and happiness.

Rhodonite was given to travelers as a protective stone. Believed to be a stone of change, it symbolizes self-realization and helps us make the right decisions on new beginnings in life. Pink rhodonite with its dark inclusions also protects against all kinds of anxieties.

Sodalite in ancient Greece was carried by artists and singers as it was believed to promote inspiration and creativity while also providing protection. This dark blue stone with white streaks of calcite is believed to be ideal for spiritual harmony.  Sodalite is relatively rare since there are only three large deposits known in the world: Bancroft, Ontario; Ice River area, British Columbia and Litchfield, Maine, USA. Some minor deposits of Sodalite have been found in Italy and Brazil.  As well as having a beautiful blue color Sodalite is also believed to aid cooling and drawing infections, burns, sinus inflammations and opening the throat chakra. Spiritually, it helps stimulate courage and endurance and releases subconscious fears and guilt.

Tiger's Eye have a beautiful shimmer and play of golden light over its surface which gives it an amazing liveliness--a cat’s eye effect called chatoyancy. It has been sought after and used in jewelry as it is said to heighten concentration and help to ease headaches and migraines; also said to be an effective healing stone for bronchial problems and asthma.

Turquoise was one of the first gemstones to be mined, a sacred stone for ancient Egyptians and Native Americans. It has long been used as a powerful protection stone against harm, an amulet for travelers and a good luck stone; also believed to protect from fears and nightmares. It is believed that Turquoise helps one to start new projects; can warn the wearer of danger or illness by changing color; and protects the wearer from falling - especially from horses. In Asia it was considered protection against the evil eye.  Turquoise was also thought to promote prosperity.  Legend has it that some Native Americans believed that if Turquoise was affixed to a bow, the arrows shot from it would always hit their mark.  It is also believed to bring happiness and good fortune to all.

Unakite, also known as epidote, is a speckled green and salmon-colored stone which conveys the symbol of what comes together belongs together. It is believed to encourage patience and is considered a powerful friendship stone. One who carries unakite will find things that have been lost.
